Join our Laboratory of Neurophysiology & Sleep Medicine and contribute to our research on: “Uncovering the mechanistic link between neurological disorders and sleep disruption.” We use animal models to understand how neurological conditions and changes in the brain affect sleep, behaviour and normal physiological function. Our wider research includes sleep disruption associated with stress, epilepsy, Parkinson’s disease, depression and anxiety. Depending on the project, you will take part in laboratory experiments, data collection and data analysis, working alongside our graduate research team. You may also gain exposure to techniques such as EEG (electroencephalography), which records electrical activity in the brain to study sleep and wakefulness, and EMG (electromyography), which records muscle activity and helps distinguish different stages of sleep. Depending on the project and your contribution, you may also have the opportunity to present a poster at a scientific conference and/or contribute to a research publication. These are potential outcomes rather than guaranteed.
